Rob Wilks

Trustee Type

Deaf, Rob has been a qualified solicitor since 2007 and specialises in employment and discrimination law.

He is currently a Lecturer in Legal Practice for the University of South Wales teaching on a range of undergraduate, postgraduate and professional courses.

In the spare time he has left, he is currently completing a PhD with the University of Leicester exploring the possible solutions to the conflict between equality law (which categorises Deaf people as disabled) and the Deaf identity.

Rob is also responsible for the Deaf Law website which aims to provide accessible information about the law to d/Deaf people, and the Facebook group which aims to bring together d/Deaf solicitors, barristers, legal executives, paralegals and law students in the UK.

He has over 10 years’ quality experience within the voluntary sector, initially as project delivery staff and then as a director reporting directly to the Chief Executive. As well as providing legal advice in employment and disability discrimination to the Deaf community as a qualified Solicitor, he developed a variety of financial, operational, strategic and general management skills at senior level.

Rob is happily married to Rachel with three gorgeous kids: Corey, Libby and Emily.  Libby and Emily are also Deaf.
